Losonnante - Unique Sound Experience

Losonnante-2.jpg

“Losonnante” means “sounding bones” and enables a unique sound experience through your own body sound. While sound waves are transmitted through the air in conventional listening, structure-borne sound propagates through solid bodies. In this case, the sound is transmitted via your own bones – from the elbows via the arms to the hands and ears.

Hearing via bone conduction offers an additional acoustic advantage: in noisy environments, disturbing external noise can be reduced by placing the hands on the ears.

A digital audio player is integrated into the listening station. The app supplied can be used to configure the system and easily upload your own audio files. To start the audio track, the elbows are placed on the structured surface. The sound changes depending on how you position your hands on your ears, so that each person can find their perfect listening position. The Losonnante listening station can be integrated into existing furniture or custom-made objects and allows for flexible use, both sitting and standing.

The Losonnante listening station is available in three versions: electric, battery and video. All devices meet the IP65 protection class. The models with mains and battery power are specially designed for outdoor use, with the battery-powered model able to be operated with an additional battery. The video version, on the other hand, is intended for indoor use only and requires a mains power supply. The video version also offers the option of playing videos on a connected screen via HDMI.

The Losonnante listening station is robust, resilient and low-maintenance. For indoor use, tables with wooden surfaces are available that give the device a sophisticated feel. For outdoor use, high tables and seating desks are available.

Structure-borne sound transmission enables unhindered access to culture and knowledge for all target groups – including children, families, people with limited mobility, and those who are visually or hearing impaired. In addition, active listening via bone conduction can promote attention, memory and concentration, and effectively support playful learning.

More information and data sheets can be found under the product section "AUDIO / Listening Station Losonnante".

Project Special exhibition NMBE Insect mortality

1-2.jpg

The special exhibition "Insect mortality, everything will be fine" at the NMBE (Natural History Museum Bern) impresses not only with its topic and scientifically correct, yet entertaining content, but also with its audiovisual presentation: a wide range of knowledge is conveyed in sound and vision at sixty independent media stations. The overall insectoid atmosphere is created by a large projection with huge insect images, which dominates the exhibition space with a width of 23.6 metres and a height of 6 metres. At the end of the exhibition there is also an audiovisual rear projection with the artist Franz Hohler. Exhibition organiser Peter Auchli was responsible for the media concept and planning. He attached great importance to the overall audiovisual experience and well thought-out media control. In the exhibition space, obstacles such as ventilation ducts and support columns pose a challenge for the desired seamless large-scale projection. The Natural History Museum wanted a concept in line with the budget, with high-quality technology designed for continuous operation for an audience keen to experiment. The client chose Crystal Display Electronics as its supplier and AV partner, a company that counts a large number of museums among its customers and is known as a specialist for sophisticated AV installations.

Large-scale projection with a challenge

2-2.jpg

For the large-scale projection, we used three Epson EB-PU2213B projectors with a brightness of 13,000 lumens, each equipped with an ELPLU04 short-throw lens. The three laser projectors were aligned and mounted one metre from the ceiling horizontally to the projection surface. The video and audio content is transmitted to the projectors and loudspeakers by Movebox UHD 1000 media players, which were co-developed in Switzerland and work with frame accuracy and continuously synchronise themselves according to the master-slave principle, so that a uniform overall image is always created across the three projectors. All twenty or so media players and the projectors are integrated into a network for the exhibition. Crystal Display Electronics was responsible for the supply and manufacture of all the AV technology and for programming the media control system. The Movebox UHD 1000 media player, like the Epson projectors, has proven itself with its multiple control options and is continuously being developed further.
